2018 Season Final
On Saturday, October 27, the Hillside Cougar football team travelled to Grande Prairie for the Athabasca Bowl against the Peace Wapiti Titans. After a rough start that saw Hillside trail 14-0, the Cougars settled in and went to work. It was a hard-fought back-and-forth affair the rest of the way with neither team really able to pull away. Hillside would outscore the Titans 8-7 in the last three quarters, but that 14-0 start helped Peace Wapiti secure a 21-8 victory as well as the 2018 Athabasca Bowl.
It was a special night for the Cougars as the league awards banquet was also held in Grande Prairie that evening. Hillside would take home three out of the nine league-wide awards. The team took home the Rick Gilson Sportsmanship Award, Colby Kreuger was named the league's Rookie of the Year, and Rylan Jones was voted as the 2018 Most Valuable Player. Not only was this the most league awards the Cougars have won, it also marks the first time a Hillside player has been named MVP.
Football Season is under way. Practices run every day Monday to Friday starting at 3:30 pm. If you are interested in joining the team please report to the school for practice.
